PREVIEW: TOP FOUR CLASH FOR IN-FORM UNITED

Canberra United will look to keep their incredible run of form going, as they search for a fifth straight win, taking on the Central Coast Mariners at McKellar Park for Round Eight of the 2025/26 Ninja A-League Women’s season.

After playing three games in the space of eight days, United have been able to rest up ahead of a massive clash against the defending champions as the team looks to go five games unbeaten.

The Mariners currently sit in fourth place, four points behind United, and are on a run of form of their own having won their last matches against Newcastle jets and Western Sydney Wanderers.

It may have been an off-season of change for the Mariners, with Championship winning coach Emily Huband departing the club along with Bianca Galic and Jessika Nash, but have managed to find some stability under the guidance of Kory Babington with the former Young Matildas Assistant Coach taking over the top job.

United are flying at the moment and full of confidence, sitting on top of the ladder for the first time since Round Three of the 2021/22 season. The side currently has the best attack in the league, with 13 goals scored.

Striker Michelle Heyman is leading the charge with six goal involvements to date, four goals and two assists. Meanwhile midfielder Bethany Gordon is equal first in the league for assists with three.

United are creating chances aplenty. Josie Aulicino has created 12 scoring opportunities in her debut season, while Gordon has 11 and Heyman 10. It is not just the attack that is firing on all cylinders at the moment though.

Goalkeeper Sally James tops the league for long passes completed with 171, while also topping the saved shots chart with 25. The side is also equal third for clean sheets with two, against Perth Glory and Sydney FC.
