Canberra United return to McKellar Park for the first time in 2025, welcoming the travelling Western United for Round 11 of the 2024/25 Ninja A-League Women’s season, which also doubles up as ‘Community Round’.
United are in high spirits, fresh off beating the second placed Brisbane Roar at Perry Park in a thrilling comeback victory.
It is the first time these two sides have met this season, with both coming into the clash off the back of a much-needed win. After being hammered by the Brisbane Roar 8-2, Western bounced back with an assured performance against Newcastle Jets to win 2-0.
Only three points separate the two teams on the ladder, with Western currently in fifth place on 14 points and United in eighth place on 11 points.
It has been an up and down season to say the least for Western. While they currently sit in fifth place, they have three losses to their name and have conceded at least four goals in each of those defeats (4-1 to Melbourne Victory, 5-1 to Western Sydney, 8-2 to Brisbane Roar).
Last time the two sides met at McKellar Park, saw fans witness an entertaining clash that would end in a one-all draw. Western thought they had a winner late in the game, only for it to be ruled out in a fiery end to the match.
There will be a few familiar faces in the opposing lineup, with four former United players on the books at Western, being Grace Maher, Chloe Lincoln, Sasha Grove, and Emily Roach. The visitors will be without Alana Cerne, with the centre-back out with injury.
Fans can expect to see an entertaining clash with goals often on the cards, 16 scored in the four games played between the two sides.
