PREVIEW: UNITED WELCOME LEAGUE LEADERS TO MCKELLAR

Canberra United are back in action following the international break, as the league leading Melbourne City make the trip to McKellar Park for Round 17 of the 2024/25 Ninja A-League Women’s.

Following a draw away in Adelaide, United sit just outside the top six, trailing sixth place but one point, with only seven games remaining in the season. A push for a spot in the top six is on the agenda for the team in green with an unbeaten Melbourne City the first roadblock.

City are currently on a 17-game unbeaten streak, having beat Sydney FC with an 98th minute goal to Bryleeh Henry, before the international window commenced.

This fixture last season saw United stun City with a thrilling 3-1 win in front of a packed out McKellar Park.

The previous meeting this season ended in a 4-2 win for City, with the final decisive goal for City coming in the 93rd minute of play, with United in the contest right until the very end.

Holly McNamara has been in good form for City, sitting equal second on the golden boot standings with seven goals to her name so far this season. Former United player Laura Hughes has also been in fine form, having played every possible minute in the league so far and with four goals to her name.

United have been in great form, with only the one loss in the last nine matches, with Antoni Jagarinec awarded Coach of the Month for January, the second time he has won the accolade in just his first season at the helm.
