Canberra United have bolstered their goalkeeping stocks by signing up a pair of goalkeepers well known to the local scene in National Premier League stars Janet King and Eliza Evans.
King was between the posts for Canberra Olympic as they finished third in the Capital Football NPL competition and were beaten Grand Finalists at McKellar Park in Mid-September.
Already known to many Canberra United fans, King was a part of the squad in last season’s Ninja A-League campaign without making a matchday teamsheet and returns for a second spell in the competition.
Evans meanwhile played her 2024/25 NPL football at Souths United in Queensland having come through the ranks at the Canberra United Academy.
The shot-stopper has been a regular between the posts in Capital Football representative teams at the National Youth Championships, and in National Training Challenge squads and represented the Territory at Schoolgirls level.
“We are very pleased to be able to welcome both Janet and Eliza into our squad for the new Ninja A-League season,” Head Coach Antoni Jagarinec commented on the duo signing forms.
“In the squad you need four goalkeepers who will keep each other on their toes, train hard, learn, and be ready for anything that comes their way. In Janet and Eliza, we have that. Both are very good goalkeepers, read the game well, and communicate effectively.
“They will bring a freshness to the group and, with both knowing Canberra as a city, and the team, I have no doubt they will prove to be a tremendous asset to us during the season.”
