Canberra United have signed exciting young forward Jynaya Dos Santos from Sydney FC as they continue to build a competitive-looking squad ahead of the forthcoming A-League season.
United picked up Dos Santos after the Sky Blues released the two-time Championship winning striker from the final year of her contract to allow the Young Matilda to find more regular starting opportunities elsewhere in the Liberty A-League.
“Jynaya is a very exciting talent and will be an important addition to our attacking stocks as we get closer to the start of the new A-League season,” Head Coach Antoni Jagarinec said of the signing.
“We watched her performances for Sydney FC with interest and, when it became apparent that she would be available, we had no hesitation in adding her to our team. Jynaya fits the profile of the players we want at Canberra, and I am convinced she will be a success here.”
Dos Santos, primarily used as a striker for Sydney FC in her eight appearances, grew up in the Illawarra region and netted her first senior A-League goal last season, a crucial winner in a fixture with Wellington Phoenix.
A part of the extraordinarily successful Sydney FC squad of recent seasons, Dos Santos can boast a 2022/23 Liberty A-League Premiership winners medal, and two Liberty A-League Championship winners medals, won consecutively in 2023 and 2024, from her time at the New South Wales club.
“I am very much looking forward to playing for Canberra United, especially in front of the noisy home supporters that the club has at McKellar Park,” Dos Santos said of her move to the National Capital.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Sydney FC but need to further my career by playing more minutes, more regularly, and I believe that I will get that chance in Canberra. The club is renowned in the league for affording young players an opportunity, and I can’t wait to start.”
