REVIEW: POINTS SHARED IN TOUGH BATTLE ON THE COAST

Canberra United were forced to settle for a point on the road, playing out a hard-fought 0–0 draw with Central Coast Mariners at Industree Group Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

In what proved to be a physical and at times fiery contest, chances were at a premium as both sides battled to gain the upper hand. Neither team was able to find the breakthrough despite several promising moments, with defensive resilience ultimately the defining feature of the match.

The Mariners threatened midway through the first half, with a long-range effort nearly catching United goalkeeper Sally James off her line, however the shot-stopper recovered well to keep the scores level. At the other end, Canberra came closest before the break when a well-struck Bethany Gordon free-kick looked destined for the back of the net, only to be pushed away by the Mariners goalkeeper.

The second half continued in a similar vein, with both sides creating half-chances but unable to capitalise. The intensity lifted as the match wore on, highlighted by a tense moment in the 65th minute that saw both teams fired up as the contest became increasingly physical.

United pushed for a late winner in the closing stages, with substitute Kiara De Domizio going close in stoppage time, while another long-range effort from Mary Stanic-Floody forced a strong save as Canberra searched for a breakthrough.

Despite the result, the point keeps Canberra firmly in the mix near the top end of the table, while also setting up an exciting final round of the regular season.

While it wasn’t the result United were hoping for, the performance showed grit and determination in a tough away fixture, with attention now turning to the final round as the side looks to build momentum heading into finals.
